1. Lori And Judy Grimes - The Walking Dead #48 (2008)

As the zombie apocalypse swept the world in The Walking Dead series, Rick Grimes' family and several survivors settle in an abandoned prison. After a man called the Governor welcomed Rick and his friends into the community of Woodbury, they saw this facility as a new lease on life. But after The Governor's people turned out to be cannibals, Rick's company maimed him before heading back to the prison.

Although they assume The Governor died from his wounds, he and his forces invaded the prison several months later, preparing to wipe out everyone. As the Governor broke into the building, Rick fled with his son, Carl, and his wife, Lori, who was holding her newborn, Judy.

Although Rick and Carl avoided being shot at by the Governor's army, one bullet cut through Lori's chest, killing her and Judy.

Even though many characters died in this issue including Hershel, Patricia, Billy, and Alice, no death packed the same punch as Lori and Judy. Although people were constantly killed throughout the series, readers never thought the writers would kill off a newborn. It was in this moment that fans realised that NO ONE in the comic was off-limits when it came to being killed off.
