10 Comic Book Deaths You Never Saw Coming
2. Kraven The Hunter - Amazing Spider-Man #294 (1987)
After Sergei Kravinoff dedicated his life to battling the deadliest creatures across the globe with his bare hands, he earned the moniker, Kraven the Hunter. Growing bored of fighting animals, Kraven decided to challenge himself by hunting Spider-Man.
Unable to best the wallcrawler, Kraven ingested serums that enhanced his strength and speed. Believing he was now capable of besting Spider-Man, Kraven decided to put an end to Webhead once and for all in the iconic story, Kraven's Last Hunt.
After shooting the Webslinger, Kraven assumed he killed him and so, buried him in a shallow grave. He then donned a Spider-Man outfit, proclaiming himself as his enemy's successor. After Spider-Man dug himself out of his grave and confronted Kraven, the Russian supervillain told him he enjoyed hunting Spidey more than any of his other prey. Believing he had nothing else to prove, Kraven killed himself.
What makes Kraven's death all the more shocking is he did something very few Spidey villains have done - he stayed dead. He has been cloned back to life a couple of times but the original Sergei Kravinoff has been pushing up daisies for over 20 decades.
