10 Comic Book Heroes Betrayed By Their Own Sidekicks

3. Batman - Red Hood

Green Arrow Roy Harper
DC Comics

Jason Todd had a rough time as Robin. Alongside being expected to compete alongside Batman, poor Jason also had to fill in the big shoes left by Dick Grayson. Eventually after a mixed run as the boy wonder, Jason found his life in the hands of the fans in 1988's death of the family arc.

After being captured by The Joker, fans were given the opportunity to vote on the fate of Jason Todd. Either voting for Batman to come and save his protégé, or to let The Joker brutally murder the world's most famous sidekick.

Apparently comic fans are a dark bunch and voted to have The Joker beat the child to death with a crowbar. (Albeit just by a narrow margin.)

But as most heroes can attest, death for a named character is usually more of an inconvenience than a permanent problem. And in 2005, much like The Winter Solider, Jason returned with a new look and a new goal: end crime in Gotham by killing all the criminals, not only fighting The Batman himself but breaking the dark knight's one rule.

I'm just a man who spent £40K on a marketing degree, and then decided to write about comic books. I think I made the right choice.
