Arguably the most critically acclaimed new comic book series from the past year, Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarskys Sex Criminals is inventive, sensitive, funny and very very raunchy. As the title of the series indicates, there is a tremendous amount of sexual intercourse in this book, as well as a celebration of pretty much everything else that is associated with intercourse, i.e. masturbation and pornography. The premise of the story is that two people, Suzie and Jon, have the ability to stop time whenever they orgasm. After meeting each other and seemingly falling in love, the two decide to use their extraordinary powers (and immense attraction to each other) to rob banks and screw over societys power structure in other ways. Given its crude content, Sex Criminals the television show would likely face critical assault before an episode is even shot (though its no more promiscuous than HBOs True Blood). But hopefully a courageous group of producers can find a home for an adaptation somewhere on premium cable. If they do, viewers are likely to fall in love with its cast of immensely likeable and realistic characters, and its very humanistic and sensitive take on the power of sex.
