5. Superior Foes Of Spider-Man
If Sony Pictures is truly intent on having its Spider-Man cinematic franchise mirror what Marvel has successfully pulled off with The Avengers, then it needs to green light a weekly television program based on the Superior Foes of Spider-Man. The comic, which focuses on the new version of the Sinister Six (which is actually only five members), is led by career D-list villain Fred Boomerang Meyers, and his gang of misfits, Speed Demon, Overdrive, Shocker and Beetle. While many comic book fans were incredulous when Marvel announced last summer that it was publishing an ongoing series about these no-name characters, the end result has been one of the best comics in the marketplace today. Superior Foes is a very character-driven story, which would translate perfectly in a serial television format. Plus, it is extraordinarily funny easily the funniest mainstream comic out there. Writer Nick Spencer and artist Steve Lieber have injected the series with their hip sensibilities, which leads to some fantastic pop culture, political and social media references in every issue. Think 30 Rock or Arrested Development with elements of a crime caper mixed in to help maintain the illusion that the series is actually part of the superhero genre. And since these villains are the very bottom of the comic industrys food chain, the show could be affordably produced as even Boomerangs trademark exploding bomb-o-rangs very rarely cause much carnage.
