10 Comic Book Series That Deserve TV Shows

4. Runaways

runaways Brian K. Vaughan€™s cult favorite series about a group of teenagers who band together when they discover their boring parents are actually a group of supervillains called the Pride, was actually supposed to be adapted for film years ago. A script was reportedly written (by British screenwriter Drew Pearce) and directors and actresses were even approached for their interest in the production, but the project was shelved by Marvel Studios so it could focus on The Avengers and its expansion of that franchise. In March 2013, Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president of production, publicly said the movie would not be made, but that Pearce would be working on Iron Man 3 based on the strength of his Runaways scripts. Earlier this year, Pearce, in an interview, mentioned that maybe television was the next destination for the Runaways. There would be potential challenges with a television adaptation as the comic€™s cast of 16-and-under characters could be perceived as a €œkiddie€ or €œfamily€ show on the small screen, when it is actually a very mature take on the betrayal of adolescence and innocence. But those who are fortunate enough to have read this series are desperate to see a live-action adaptation of it in any incarnation. Runaways would absolutely work on premium cable like Showtime or HBO, and if any of those networks were reluctant to bite because it stars a bunch of kids, the comic isn€™t so mature and adult-themed that it wouldn€™t be appropriate for a basic cable channel like AMC or FX.
