10 Comic Book Villains Who Killed Their Greatest Rival
3. Doomsday Kills Superman - The Death Of Superman
The funny thing about Superman is that even in a comic explicitly called 'The Death of Superman', a small part of you still genuinely thinks that the hero has to come out unscathed. But the Man of Steel is not only defeated, but killed by Doomsday in the series, marking what is perhaps the most iconic superhero death to date in the world of comics.
Which is made doubly impressive by the fact that Doomsday manages to kill the hero in literally his first-ever appearance in comics, with everything that came after it feeling almost like a let down for just how intense his initial moments on the page managed to be.
Death of Superman is semi-famous for having an insanely long fight scene between the two - which easily lasts around a hundred pages - but manages to somehow be action-packed and engaging the entire time.
Not every famous comic is entirely deserving of its popularity, but The Death of Superman is deserving of its fame and more for its punchy yet emotional storyline, and for the impact it had on the industry for years to come.
