10 Comic Book Villains Whose Origins Are A Mystery

4. Griever At The End Of All Things

The Joker
Marvel Comics

Created by Dan Slott in Fantastic Four #2, The Griever at the End of All Things was an abstract being who appeared before the Future Foundation, claiming that they had overstepped their bounds. She waited until the nearly god-like Franklin Richards had seemingly depleted all his power. Claiming to be the embodiment of entropy, she killed Owen Reece, the Molecule Man, and caused a cascade reaction that began destroying all the realities Franklin had created.

Mocking the Griever’s abilities and saying she could never beat the Fantastic Four at its full power, Reed Richards used her teleporter to not only bring Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm to them, but also every hero who had ever been a member of the FF in the past. While the other heroes kept her distracted, Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny destroyed all but one teleporter because Reed surmised that the destroyer couldn’t travel under her own power. She was forced to flee but vowed vengeance.

The Griever made her way to Earth and attempted to force Reed to show her how to use the Forever Gate to travel every when and everywhere. The Silver Surfer gave the Ultimate Nullifier to Franklin Richards because he was the only one with the universal awareness to use it against the abstract entity. Having no other choice, the embodiment of entropy agreed to travel to the natural end of the universe.
