10 Comic Characters Who Totally Changed After Appearing On Screen

3. Loki

Marvel

Loki was always your classic cackling villain. With his ridiculous costume and huge horned helmet, he was one of the Avengers' sillier foes, whose only goal was to make mischief and look ludicrous doing it.

However, Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki offered something very different. The actor's natural charisma and pitch perfect over-acting gave us a hugely entertaining villain, one that an audience could love to hate while never forgetting just how threatening he was. It's a real testament to Hiddleston's performance that the audience could boo him in Avengers Assemble, but still shed a tear when he seemingly died in Avengers: Infinity War.

The comics could not ignore that one of their second-tier villains had become one of the MCU's biggest stars, so they knew that a bit of a reboot was in order. They re-designed him, not only to look more like Hiddleston, but to have a cooler, more 21st-Century personality. Loki went from Trickster God to Hipster God, in one of the few cases where a modern update of a classic character actually worked.
