10 Comic Villains You Didn't Realise Actually Won

3. The Riddler - Batman: Hush

While the focus of Batman: Hush is, unsurprisingly, on the villain named Hush, he's actually not the evil-doer who does best out of the comic.

Because towards the end of it, it's revealed that Hush has been able to play with Batman's life both as a vigilante and as Bruce Wayne because the Riddler managed to uncover his secret identity. When Edward attempts to smugly laud this over his enemy, Bruce reminds him of a crucial fact; if Nygma tells anyone, it won't be a secret anymore.

And while the Dark Knight gets what he wanted - that is, the Riddler's silence - the question-mark clad villain has also finally found a way he can have permanently defeated his shadowy foe.

As, while he wouldn't want to risk anyone else sharing in his secret knowledge, he can hold it over the Bat forever. Bruce is a pretty paranoid guy at the best of times, so even just threatening to use this information is likely to be enough to push him over the edge on a bad day.

While the Riddler no longer possesses this profane secret after the New 52 reboot, it's safe to say that for him, Batman's real identity is once again his greatest riddle - and really, everyone might be better off that way.
