10 Comics Characters Who Randomly Disappear With No Explanation

8. Maggott

Static Shock DC Comics
Marvel Comics

Mutations are a funny thing; either you score the ability to fly or heal from any wound, or you turn into a monster with no real powers. Somewhere in the middle is Japheth, a South African mutant whose mutation manifested into what doctors originally believed to be stomach cancer.

Of course, it wasn't cancer, and instead, the poor kid lacked a stomach of his own. In its place, he had two large invertebrate creatures that emerged from his abdomen to eat anything they possibly could. He named them "Eany" and "Meany," which is what you might expect a teenager to name a couple of grotesque creatures who emerged from the place his stomach should have been.

Despite having one of the all-time grossest mutations in Marvel Comics, Maggott was popular among fans throughout the 1990s. He appeared in more than 350 issues of various series throughout the decade and was a member of the X-Men for a short time. Following that, he joined up with Generation X.

Unfortunately, he was gone by the second issue following a battle with Slaughter, who was on the hunt for Maggott's little buddies. After that, he died, was resurrected, and appeared sporadically with House of X being his last showing. Essentially, he went from being a major character to being a rarely-seen mutant with barely a mention.
