Struble & Grace's 'Li'l Depressed Boy' is a perfect example of slice of life comic book storytelling. Atmospherically there's nothing like it - the world of LDB gives off a vibe like someone jammed the mumble-core cinema movement through a Spike Jonze filter. The series is pretty compelling and really understated on all fronts. It doesn't try to be anything it isn't, and the story of a melancholic twenty-something as he coasts through life, building relationships and trying to figure himself (and the world) out, resonates with pretty much everyone who ever picked it up. Music is such a big part of the series that it's pretty much it's own character. It's the only constant in LDB's life, and it makes for some really heartfelt storytelling. Partner this with guest appearances by artists like Childish Gambino, Andrew Jackson Jihad and Kepi Ghoulie and it's a recipe for perfection.
