2. Nightwing Was Going To Die In Infinite Crisis
When Superboy perished at the end of Infinite Crisis, something just didn't seem to add up. Especially as Batman, of all people, decided it was time to go against his life long rule, and pulled a gun on Alexander Luthor.
Why did the Caped Crusader behave in such a manner? Over a character that he hadn't been that close too. Surely, something as out of left field for him would only be reserved for the loss of a person he carried deeply about.
And with that, fans worldwide came to the same conclusion that it was one of the Bat Family that was supposed to have bit the big one, and not Superboy.
Immediately, all eyes fell on Nightwing. After all, he would be more than willing to lay his life down for the cause and the Nightwing mini-series pretty much set it up.
Turns out, that was the case all along.
During the DC Nation panel at Wizard World Philadelphia 2006 (via Titans Tower), Dan DiDio was asked who he had wanted to die and he replied: "I wanted Nightwing dead”, and he would've gotten his way if everyone else involved, including Geoff Johns, hadn't slammed a hard no on the idea.
