10 Comics Fates Worse Than Death

5. Never Make A Deal With The Devil

When Al Simmons was brutally murdered, he wasted no time in attempting to return to the land of the living. He was cast into Hell for his life of government-sanctioned murder and mayhem, which brought him to the attention of a demon known as Malebolgia, and he offered Al a deal.

He brought him back to life on Earth, but in far worse shape than when he left the land of the living. He was completely burned and scarred all over his body, but worse than that, he was returned five years after he died. His wife had married his best friend, and they had a child together.

To be fair, Al had some serious mystical superpowers and a symbiotic costume he could use to do all sorts of things. He was a Hellspawn, and Malebolgia intended to use him as a commanding General in his war against Heaven, but Al had other things in mind.

Spawn may seem like a great gig, seeing as he's effectively immortal, has proven his skills in combating everything from Heaven to Hell, and is insanely powerful, but he lost everything. His entire identity was destroyed, and he was forced to watch as his family lived on without him.

What's worse, his close ties to the family resulted in a great deal of pain and suffering being sent their way. That makes being Spawn a fate far worse than death, even with Simmons being damned to Hell for all eternity.
