10 Comics Heroes Who Broke Their Mentor's Rules

1. Hal Jordan

As the emerald-clad space police, the Green Lanterns have an awful lot of rules to follow. They have to follow and obey the Guardians - little blue councilmen who are pacifists to a fault - and also serve as a sort of de facto mentor to each member of the Lantern Corps.

Because of these rules often being incredibly limiting, many Lanterns find themselves either building elaborate loopholes, or outright breaking their code for the greater good. For example, one of the Corps' greatest heroes, Hal Jordan, is found doing things that go against his oaths just as often as he's found complying with them.

Even when he's not outright ignoring the orders of the Guardians, Hal often places protecting Earth as as priority over other planets due to his lingering attachment towards our little blue world - which is understandable, but also totally against Green Lantern code.

He's also gotten in a fair amount of brawls with his teammates, but given he has often had to work with Guy Gardner - a man so annoying Batman once punched him out - you can hardly blame him.
