The second Annual issue of the original Legends of the Dark Knight - the first being the twisted, dreamlike tale Duel - features James Gordon, Sarah Essen, and a surprisingly small amount of actual Caped Crusader. The plot is as simple as they come: old thugs are seeking revenge against Gordon, and they use his family to put the pressure on. It's the relationships between Gordon and the women in his life that drive Vows. Erin Richards has been cast in Gotham as Barbara Kean, who will eventually become Barbara Gordon, but Sarah Essen will appear as well, played by Zabryna Guevara. Essen plays a big role in Miller's Year One, and her role in Vows is possibly her biggest appearance. She shows a strong knowledge of police work, a patient manner with the sometimes-temperamental Gordon, and no small degree of badassery throughout Vows, all of which should be brought to the first live-action portrayal of the character.
