10 Comics To Read Before Batman vs Superman Movie

2. Trinity (2003)

Written and illustrated by Matt Wagner. "Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman: Trinity" seems the most fitting suggestion for source material for a film ostensibly called Batman vs. Superman which also stars Wonder Woman in some capacity. The storyline of Matt Wagner's take on World's Finest takes place before the formation of the Justice League, and that seems to be what Batman vs. Superman aims to do as well. The plot concerns Ra's al Ghul's recruitment of Bizarro and Artemis for yet another scheme to bring destruction an chaos upon the planet. Really, though, Wagner tends to write pretty plot-light superhero yarns, choosing instead to focus on the characterization of heroes you would think had been characterized to death by this point. This is the major strength of "Trinity", and it could be an important element of Batman vs. Superman. How will it influence Batman vs. Superman? Reconciliation of the methods and philosophies of the three main heroes in DC's wide stable is something that should be at the forefront of all of the team-up movies, whether it's Batman vs. Superman or Justice League or whatever Warner Brothers has planned. Tension between Batman's stubborn tactics, Superman's natural morality, and Wonder Woman's prideful actions will be the crux of the DC Universe at large, as it is in "Trinity".
