10 Comics That CHANGED History
2. The History Of The Marvel Universe
The Marvel House of Ideas has been churning out stories for over eighty years now. During that time, it has published works from hundreds (if not thousands!) of writers and artists, and somehow managed to claim that every word, every character, and every event that those creators wrote about are all part of one expansive Universe.
Surely there were conflicting ideas along the way. Surely not everything everyone wrote could be considered canon. Surely some writers would take the piss and say that the first ever living creatures were giant pink fish who passively floated around space for eternity. Surely any attempt to turn all of these crazy ideas into one cohesive, chronological narrative would result in something equally ridiculous as it is ambitious.
And surely enough, that is the case with The History of the Marvel Universe. It attempts to be the comic book equivalent of JRR Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, a detailed and thorough account of the history of a completely fictional world. Of course it is insane. Of course it doesn’t always make logical sense. And of course, it is definitive proof that no matter how much we learn about the history of our people, our planet, and our universe, it will never be as entertaining as some nonsense a bunch of people made up to sell comic books.
