10 Comics Too Big To Fail (That Did Anyway)

4. Loki

FANTASTIC FOUR Alex Ross
Marvel Comics

Loki was presented as a trickster and mostly annoying throughout his early career in Marvel Comics, but the character got something of a facelift thanks to the MCU. Tom Hiddleston managed to play Loki so well, his charm and ability to woo the audience made his comic book counterpart change in a number of ways.

This newfound love for the character launched several changes, including turning Loki into a kid and giving him an eponymous series in 2019. Marvel Comics launched Loki after an April 2019 announcement, but after only publishing five issues, the publisher canceled the book.

The news of the cancellation came in the letter column, titled "Mischief Mail," when one reader asked if the series would feature the gender-fluid character, the Goddess of the Moon. In his reply, the series artist, Daniel Kibblesmith, wrote the following:

"Unfortunately, as we're now closing up shop on this nook of the House of Ideas, it seems that a proper return of the Goddess is not in the cards for us for now. The Moon never wanes for long."

With those words, Loki's solo series was finished, and a seemingly untouchable title was canceled. Marvel didn't provide a reason, and while the five-issue run managed to complete a story arc, it was intended to be an ongoing series.
