10 Comics Villains Humiliated By The Joker

6. The Riddler

Bane Joker
DC Comics

The War of Jokes and Riddles storyline was set during the Batman's second year as a crimefighter. Essentially, over six issues the Riddler and the Joker go to war over who has the right to kill Batman, forcing the rest of Batman's rogues gallery to choose a side.

It starts simply enough - Joker is depressed, not finding anything funny anymore, no matter how psychotic. The Riddler does his best to try and fix this, suggesting a team up against Batman. As an answer, Joker shoots Riddler and leaves him to die, setting off the War.

Dozens of civilians die as collateral damage, all of which Batman takes to heart.

The finale of the series involves Joker, Riddler, Batman, and Kite-Man (yes, Kite-Man) finally sorting out who's won. Despite the Riddler attempting to arrange the whole conflict as a way to make the Joker laugh again, he's lost his allies, been confronted in his own headquarters, and been defeated by Kite-Man.

In the last big F-you from the Joker, after Bruce is willing to kill Riddler for all he's caused, Joker takes the knife thrust from Batman that was meant for Riddler, not only saving Riddler's life but showing Riddler that he wasn't worthy of being Batman's first 'kill' either.
