10 Comics Villains Who Had The Best Debuts

8. Doctor Doom

Joker First Appearance HQ
Marvel Comics

When Victor Von Doom was at the same university as Reed Richards, his quest for the dark arts would cause an explosion that would leave him hideously disfigured. Years would pass before he would return, this time as the villainous Doctor Doom.

His first appearance in the Fantastic Four would see him kidnap Sue Richards and use her as a bargaining chip to send the remaining members of the group back in time to steal Blackbeard's treasure, a story so truly out there that it could've only come from Stan 'the Man' Lee and the legendary Jack Kirby.

Turning Ben Grimm into everyone's favorite pirate was a touch of genius - one of the many in their respective careers - and the swashbuckling action was a great change of pace from the usual superhero fare, but it is the debut of Doom that had Marvel's readers gripped.

He set out his stall from the very start by trapping the FF in a situation where they would have to do his bidding, and even though the good guys came through in the end, Doom would escape to fight another day.
