10 Comics Villains Who Had The Best Debuts

7. Apocalypse

Joker First Appearance HQ
Marvel Comics

As the newly formed X-Factor search for the super-powered mutant Mike Nowlan, they come face to face with the Alliance of Evil, headed by the eternal Apocalypse. What follows is a classic throwdown between both sides, that sees them save the man they had set out to retrieve but at the cost of the life of his wife Sue.

This leaves Apocalypse to do what Apocalypse always does best: escape to plot even more evil plans against Marvel's greatest team.

With this introduction in X-Factor #6, brought to readers by Jackson Guice and Louise Simonson, En Sabah Nur starts out how he means to go on.

Preaching his belief in the survival of the fittest mantra that he still holds to this day, he attempts to use Mike's powers to enhance his alliance's strengths, or so it would seem. In the end, it is revealed to be just another of his tests to weed out the strong from the weak, and this sets a pattern that repeats itself for many years to come.

One of the greatest villains to ever come out of the Marvel-Verse, Apocalypse's journey to comic book immortality is essential reading for any X-Men fan.
