10 Controversial Comic Book Retcons Fans Hated

One of the more recent controversies Marvel has produced was the time when Captain America was revealed to have been a Nazi his entire life. The character that many people had looked up to as children was being presented as a completely different person, with views and morals many despised.

When Steve Rogers was resurrected by a cosmic cube that manifested its sentience as a child named Kobik, he was given a new history - one that was influenced by Red Skull's influence over the cube, meaning that he became a Nazi sleeper agent who thought that he had lost his memories in order to accomplish deep cover.

Obviously, as current head of S.H.I.E.L.D., he managed to take over America in a matter of months, and became Captain Hydra, perhaps the most controversial moment of the entire run.

Even after the true Steve Rogers returned, fans were not appeased, and the storyline remains infamous to this day.
