If you’ve ever wanted to see what combining Wolverine and Batman would be like, the Amalgam Universe may be worth exploring. In the 1990s a run of stories combining a variety of DC and Marvel characters was printed. Dark Claw was one such of these.
The character – Logan Wayne – originates from Canada. At only five he witnesses the murder of his parents, and is subsequently sent to Alberta to be raised by his uncle, who is also killed thereafter. Following this second tragedy the boy is sent away again to live with nuns.
As an adult Wayne ends up in the Weapon X super-soldier initiative. In this program his latent mutant abilities are revealed, which constitute the same regenerative powers as Wolverine, and much of his experience plays out like that of Wolverine too, having adamantium bonded to his skeleton. He then travels the world, learning all known disciplines of martial arts, and a plethora of other skills pertinent to a crime-fighter.
When taking up residence in New Gotham City Logan adopts the public persona of a rich shallow artist. He fights crime in a Wolverine/Batman hybrid costume, utilising an array of claw-themed instruments.
