10 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy DC Comics

2. The Multiverse Exists, And You Can Punch It

DC Comics

Until the continuity reset, DC had one of the most convoluted histories in any form of fiction (it'd probably make Borges blush). It's tried to reconcile its 75 years of history in countless different ways, from separating the goofier Golden and Silver Age superhero stories into their own alternate Earths to the "main" DC Universe to the periodic Crises wherein they try and tidy up all of those multiverses they've created for themselves.

Not only is the multiverse a neat little conceit in DC, it's also a frequent plot point, even in the non-crossover stories. Characters have seemingly come back from the dead by skipping over from a different version of Earth, and people have seemingly died by being banished to them. If the fact that there's an infinite number of alternate realities that constantly brush up against the DCU isn't enough to get your head around, there's also the way the walls can come crashing down. By which we refer, of course, to the moment in Infinite Crisis where Superboy-Prime literally pounded on the walls of reality and caused a load of changes in the main DCU. So not only is the multiverse a thing, but it has physical walls. Which you can punch. Carry on...
