9. The Exiles

Parallel versions of superheroes like Mimic, Morph, Blink, Thunderbird, Nocturne, and Magnus were plucked from their realities by the Timebroker to form a group called The Exiles.

To return to their own world, they must travel to different dimensions to prevent universe-ending calamities. If The Exiles fail in too many missions, it could set off a chain reaction that could collapse the entire multiverse. Their missions could involve rescuing someone, deactivating a weapon, letting a person die, etc. One time, they saved the universe by purchasing a Danish pastry!

At first, The Exiles was perceived by readers as an unsubtle rip-off of the tv series, Quantum Leap. However, it rapidly became one of the most consistent Marvel series of the decade.

What makes the series so good is how it keeps subverting expectations. In their first mission, The Exiles sought the aid of Professor X, unaware that he was the evilest man alive on his world.

They then had to track down the world's greatest hero, Magneto, to take down the the professor. On their adventures, they've encountered a vampire version of the Avengers, a Wolverine composed of pure energy, a deformed dictator version of Tony Stark.
