The premise of the mutant squad, X-Statix, is simple; they want to be famous. The team promotes brands and plug their merchandise just like modern celebrities.

At first, it seems shameless how superheroes would allow themselves to be corporate shills. But from X-Statix's point of view, it's ridiculous how the Fantastic Four and X-Men save the world on a daily basis for free. In every job, employees are paid to perform a service. If X-Statix are willing to risk their lives to save the day, why shouldn't they get paid?

So, are X-Statix the corporate sell-outs people think they are? HELL YES! When they debuted, their manager, Coach, allowed most of X-Statix get killed, believing a high body count and a changing roster would boost their ratings.

As crazy as X-Statix sounds, it could've been crazier. X-Statix #15 was meant to introduce a brand-new team member, Princess Diana of Wales, who had died six years prior! Although X-Statix has earned a lot of praise, it's storylines like this where you can understand why this comic series is too weird for some readers.
