10 Criminally Overlooked Characters In Comics

1. Dr. Occult

Hellstorm Son of Satan
DC Comics

Dr. Occult is easily one of the oldest magic users in the DC Universe, having been created by Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster for New Fun #6 in 1935. He is, in fact, the oldest DC Comics character still in active use today. His powers and skills make him on par with John Constantine and Zatanna but this Trenchcoat Brigade member is virtually unknown.

In December 1899, two infants were saved from sacrifice to Satan by a cult by a mysterious group called the Seven. Realizing the children had mystic potential, the members of the Seven raised them and gave them the names of Richard Occult and Rose Psychic. When they came of age, Occult proved the most adept and he was given the Mystic Symbol of the Seven. The pair was sent out into the world to battle evil.

In the early 1940s, Occult joined the All-Star Squadron with every costumed hero in America. In 1945, while assisting the Justice Society against the Stalker, Occult sacrificed his soul, and Rose bonded with him and they shared the body. The Doctor was one of the mystics to battle the Great darkness during the crisis and Rose took young Tim Hunter through the lands of the Faerie, Gemworld, and the Dreaming.
