10 Criminally Underrated Super Teams In DC Comics
1. Justice Society Of America
One of the absolute best things about the DC Universe, up until their insistence on continuous reboots of the status quo, was the concept of legacy. The idea that characters could grow up, evolve, and even retire.
Conversely, getting to watch younger heroes eventually come into their own and becoming premiere superheroes in their own right. No team better exemplifies that than the Justice Society.
Comprised originally of heroes that formed DC's Golden Age, the Justice Society included members like The Sandman, The Spectre, The Atom, The Flash, and others. Eventually, this version of the Flash, Jay Garrick, was able to reach out and connect with modern comics, matching frequencies with Barry Allen and leading to an annual team-up.
The Justice Society was eventually folded into the main DC comics continuity following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, and gradually became a team that best balanced everything DC had to offer.
The Justice Society became a home for heroes that were in their twilight but still had value. Hal Jordan may have been the prime Green Lantern, but that didn't mean Alan Scott had nothing to offer.
In time, The JSA became a team of living mentors and upstarts, with characters like Wildcat, Flash, and Green Lantern taking on younger charges like Stargirl, Hourman, and Liberty Belle.
When it comes to DC, the JLA might be the most famous, but it is the Justice Society that best personifies the universe's greatest qualities.
