10 DC Superheroes With Tortured Pasts

7. The Flash

Barry Allen may be a mixture of blinding speed, smiles, and jokes but there can be no doubt that, underneath the surface, is a man that is dealing with a lot of angst.

When he was eleven, Barry's mother was murdered and his father convicted of the crime. This drove him to become a police scientist, which he hoped would help him find the real culprit and, in doing so, free his father who had been wrongly imprisoned. Sadly, Henry Allen would die in jail before his son ever caught the real criminal.

And if this wasn't tragic enough already, his life went further down the pan during the 1980s with the help of Professor Zoom.

Eobard Thawne came from the 25th century with the sole intention of going on a massive crime spree and when he was defeated, he chose to blame The Flash. In retaliation, he murdered Barry's first love, Iris West, and when it looked for all intents and purposes that he'd found love again, threatened to do the same thing to Fiona Webb.

This would cause The Flash to do the one thing superheroes were never meant to do, and he killed Zoom by breaking his neck.

So, yeah, a lot of baggage there for old Bazza.
