He may have been charming, he may have worn a fetching Guy Fawkes mask, and he may have been voiced by Hugo Weaving in the criminally underrated movie, but his past really was the true definition of tortured.
The man with no name had no known existence before he became a resident of Larkhill Resettlement Camp, but there is no doubt that if he had been put in there, it was because he had been seen as one of the many undesirables that the British Government had decided to exterminate.
The occupant of room five would be experimented on and tortured to the point of death, but whereas those others who had been unfortunate to suffer the same fate had all died, he would live and reap a terrible vengeance upon those who had been responsible.
It may be fair to say that he shouldn't be here, as there is never any real showing of any powers. As Creedy says:
You've got nothing. Nothing but your bloody knives and your fancy karate gimmicks.
But there is no way anyone could argue that he wasn't heroic and, when you get down to it, that's all that matters in the end.
