10 Disastrous Superhero Redesigns

7. Armoured Captain America

The same motivation was almost certainly behind the big, shiny robot suit Steve Rogers donned for a good period of the nineties as well (there€™s a pattern emerging here). Right now in the Marvel Universe Captain America is no more, as a result of the super soldier serum that gave him his superpowers - and stopped him from aging, despite having been knocking about since the Second World War - suddenly deciding to up and stop working. Now the man who would be Cap is a withered out husk, with the mantle being passed onto former sidekick Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon.

Steve Rogers will eventually return to the Captain America name, by hook or by crook, probably around the time the next film€™s out; plus readers remember the time the same thing happened to him in the nineties, only instead of throwing in the towel, he had one of his many boffin SHIELD pals fashion him a big power suit so he could continue punching inexplicably reverent Nazis.

What was supposed to look like a cool twist on the classic Cap outfit resembled more the get up of forgotten icon NFL Superpro and, yes, seemed like another cynical attempt to launch a toy line.
