10 Dumbest Batman Moments You Won't Believe

8. The Most Obnoxious Batman Fan - Detective Comics #267

The publishing of the Seduction of the Innocent (1954) had a startling effect on Batman comics. Author and psychiatrist Fredric Wertham's suggestion that Batman and Robin were gay led to an overhaul of the Batman universe: including the introduction of female love interests, the books distancing themselves from heavier crime themes, and a focus on even more comedic elements in the comics. Which likely paved the way for the creation of Bat-Mite in issue #267 of Detective Comics.

Bat-Mite is an obsessed, magical, Batman fan from a different dimension. It is absolutely as dumb as you would imagine. The new character's entire shtick is that he causes trouble for Batman and Robin: like prolonging a fight because he's having so much fun watching the two do battle.

In 1950's style, Batman suggests that he ought to "spank" the full-grown magical man for being such a jerk.

This ridiculous comic launched what would be five years of Bat-Mite team-ups in Detective Comics, Batman, and World's Finest Comics.

West loves pop culture, movies, comics and TV-shows just as much as you do. Probably. Since you're reading this. Also, she has a cat. He's pretty awesome.
