Iron Man's nemesis, The Mandarin, was tired of being perceived as a dictator so he forced a director to make a film about his life, depicting him as a beloved hero. The Mandarin created a fictional version of his origin and ordered the director to adapt it for the big screen.

In the Mandarin's script, his mother died from a broken heart after his father was crushed by a statue. In reality, his father abandoned him and his mother was an opium-addicted prostitute. The Mandarin murdered his parents at a young age to hide his upbringing and to create his legacy as a descendant of Genghis Khan.

The director saw past his lies and made a film that showed the Mandarin as the despicable monster he is. When the Mandarin saw the film at the premier, he flew into a rage, killing everyone in the cinema. Afterwards, the Mandarin regretted murdering the director since he was a big fan of his films.

This story was inspired by the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-Il, who kidnapped the South Korean film director, Shin Sang-ok, and forced him to make seven films over eight years before he escaped.
