10 Dumbest Supervillain Schemes You Won't Believe
4. Magneto Tries To Kill The X-Men With A Balloon
In the 1966 X-Men story, None Shall Survive!, Magneto infiltrates the X-Men's mansion to initiate his latest scheme to destroy the team. What's he going to do? Hack Cerebro? Blow up the building? Kidnap some team members?
No. He forces Professor X, Beast, Angel, Jean Grey, and Cyclops into a weather balloon and sends it into the sky, assuming the team will run out of air once it reaches high altitude.
Like Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers series, Magneto just assumes his plan worked. As far as he's concerned, the X-Men are dead the instant he sees the balloon fly into the clouds.
He then constructs a device that can create millions of mutant clones. Wait, if he can do that, why has he never tried to do it before? Why did he never try and do it again?
As the weather balloon reaches high altitude, Cyclops cuts a hole in the balloon, allowing the helium to leak out, causing it to descend back to Earth. They return to the mansion and stop Magneto's clone army from forming. The Master of Magnetism is then defeated by a random alien that had nothing to do with the rest of the story.
