10 Embarrassing Comic Book Moments Writers Had To Explain

1. Spider-Man's Hatred Of Protesters

As legendary a creator as Steve Ditko was, when he let his love of Randian philosophy take over, even his best work became downright insufferable, as seen with pretty much every issue of his original run of The Question, as well as, of course, his work on the original run of Amazing Spider-Man.

The most infamous case of Ditko's objectivism making his heroes look like jerks, as far as Spider-Man is concerned, comes during the era of Peter being in college, where he yells at a group of protesters in what is one of the most quintessentially "a sixties white guy wrote this" moments in a comic that was already 90% comprised of moments like that.

Obviously later writers just kinda chose to ignore this embarrassing moment, but a moment this embarrassing cannot remain un-lampshaded forever. So it came to pass that the great Al Ewing would come along to make fun of this truly cringe inducing moment in the pages of Captain America & The Mighty Avengers #1, by having Spider-Man directly reference it as a cringe inducing memory. Apparently he read some Rand in college and went around thinking he was the next John Galt for like a week, which included the infamous scene in question.

Here's hoping that's ALL he did to emulate Mr. Galt...
