10 Embarrassing Supervillains Marvel Wants You To Forget

1. Asbestos Lady

The Matador
Marvel Comics

These days, we all know the dangers of asbestos. It's a known carcinogen, which leads to idiopathic mesothelioma and death. For that reason, it's been stripped from just about every building it has been placed into, but back in the early 20th century, it was a wonder!

Asbestos could block fire from spreading, which is why it was used to create the villainess, Asbestos Lady! Victoria Murdock lived in utter hatred of the original Human Torch and wanted nothing more than to face him in combat. To do so, she prepared herself by creating a special suit made of the material, which negated the Torch's fire powers.

She embraced a life of crime and made several attempts to take out the Torch, but she never managed to make any of her threats stick. In reality, the asbestos suit would have blocked the flames, but not the heat... Regardless, she wasn't much of a threat.

Eventually, the character died of idiopathic mesothelioma, which was probably due to asbestos exposure. This one might be more of a lesson-learned than anything else, but overall, she was a rather ridiculous supervillain.
