10 Epic Comic Book Fights With Underwhelming Endings
2. Darkseid Vs Jimmy Olsen - Countdown To Final Crisis #2-3 (2008)
Countdown was a 51-part event comic which revolved around... well, it's hard to say exactly. Because of its mangled story, Countdown is hailed as one of DC Comics' worst and most indecipherable stories ever.
However, one of the few things that stopped Countdown from being an absolute snoozefest was Darkseid. Throughout the series, the lord of Apokolips was seen manipulating events from the shadows. Even though the storyarcs revolving around Mary Marvel and Superman-Prime were stupid and non-sensical, readers were curious to watch Darkseid's plan unfold.
As Darkseid prepared to take over Earth, Superman stepped in to stop the despotic dictator once and for all. Even though Countdown is terrible, one would expect the story to redeem itself a little with one great scrap in the climax.
But after Supes was taken out of the battle, Darkseid was forced to face a new opponent - Jimmy Olsen. Even though Olsen developed superpowers during Countdown so he could hold his own against supervillains, it still looked ridiculous watching Superman's bumbling sidekick battling one of the most powerful entities in existence. (It was extra ridiculous since Olsen fought Darkseid while looking like a giant turtle man for no reason.)
