10 Essential Black Panther Comics
7. Who Is The Black Panther?
Reginald Hudlin is one of the foremost creators working in Hollywood right now, so you can imagine that his stint on Black Panther was a memorable one.
Drawn by John Romita Jr, the duo's first arc - Who is the Black Panther - was fantastic, and a fine attempt in world-building at that. Living up to the book's title, Hudlin deconstructs the Black Panther mantle itself, chronicling its legacy all the way back to World War II where, wouldn't you know it, the OG Panther even linked up with Captain America.
Romita's art is as gorgeous as ever, and Hudlin - who only recently directed the Thurgood Marshall biopic - lends the book some serious gravity. Fans of Black Panther will also know his run for the introduction of T'Challa's relationship with Ororo Munroe, X-Men's Storm. And while it fluctuated in quality as it progressed, Hudlin's first arc was as fine an introduction to the character as any other.
