10 Essential Horror Comics Fans Must Read

8. Hellblazer

Uzumaki Manga
DC Comics

DC's vertigo imprint is known for a lot of titles, many of which you'll be seeing on this very list. But one of their most famous is Hellblazer, the origin point for the one and only John Constantine.

While he technically made his debut in the pages of Swamp Thing, Hellblazer is where the character truly shines, and where the majority of his lasting appeal comes from. From his lovable boorish personality, to his menagerie of supernatural enemies and the greater mythology of the DC universe's darker corners, everything great about Constantine's world is showcased within these pages.

But be forewarned, this is Vertigo, so don't expect anything for the squeamish. This series is brutal and it does not want you to ever forget that fact. Constantine's life is basically one long series of train wrecks with the briefest respites in between. And like train wrecks, the tragic results are rarely anything that you can look at without retching a bit.

But despite its more... gratuitous aspects, Hellblazer is still a damn fine horror comic and a must read for any fan of John Constantine.
