10 Essential Suicide Squad Stories
5. Secret Six: Danse Macabre (2010)
A crossover between the Suicide Squad and the Secret Six, Amanda Waller's current sharpshooter isn't up to the task, so she wants Deadshot back on the squad by any means necessary.
Waller plans to split the Secret Six to capture them while destroying their base, leaving them no option but to join Task Force X.
However, Waller has miscalculated, as when she enacts her scheme, the villains of the DC universe rise as Black Lanterns and look to recruit both the Secret Six and the Suicide Squad into their ranks of the undead. It's not long before the two teams have to unite to survive the night before they can go back to killing each other.
Amanda Waller's Machiavellian nature is on full display in this comic from Gail Simone, John Ostrander, Peter Nguyen and J. Calafiore, as she masterfully manipulates both teams with ease and precision. Even the curveball of the Black Lanterns doesn't deter her.
The three-part crossover beautifully demonstrates how comic tie-ins should be done, as it both develops the characters while pushing the ongoing series forward.
