10 Essential Suicide Squad Stories
6. Batman: Assault On Arkham (2014)
This animated film set within the Arkham game's continuity, directed by Jay Oliva, is set two years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Assault on Arkham features an all-star cast with Kevin Conroy, CCH Pounder and Giancarlo Esposito portraying Batman, Amanda Waller and Black Spider. Neal McDonough as Deadshot, Jennifer Hale as Killer Frost and John DiMaggio as King Shark all work perfectly in their roles and help bring a real sense of gravity to the film.
Waller orders Task Force X to assassinate the Riddler, who has a thumb drive with sensitive knowledge about the squad and their black ops missions. The squad infiltrates Arkham Asylum to eliminate Batman's old adversary and retrieve the thumb drive. Meanwhile, the Dark Knight is scouring Gotham to find a dirty bomb Joker has planted.
Eventually, the two plots converge as it is revealed there was no thumb drive, but Riddler knows how to deactivate the Suicide Squad's neck bombs, while the dirty bomb is in Harley's mallet. The squad quickly betray Waller as she tries to activate their bombs, and Batman faces off against the Joker once again.
The film is pure chaos from start to finish as the team is constantly on the back foot, caught in the middle of both Waller and Joker's plots, while the threat of Batman looms over them. The voice cast plays off of each other brilliantly, with Deadshot and Boomerang constantly trying to one-up one another.
