10 Essential Suicide Squad Stories

2. Apokolips Now! (1989)

Suicide Squad Bad Blood
DC Comics

Not all of the adventures the Squad finds themselves on are on Earth. Even worse, sometimes Waller doesn't have control of the situation. Issues #33-36 of Ostrander's original run pits the Squad against the Furies of Apokolips.

The Squad member Dutchess regains her memory and identity as Lashina, a member of the Female Furies. In retaliation for her forced conscription, she kidnaps the team and brings them to Apokolips, killing Doctor Light and some of the team's supporting crew in the process.

Trapped on the hellish planet and outgunned, the team truly lives up to their name as they fight for survival.

No story has ever shown how versatile Task Force X can be as it includes some delightfully bizarre showdowns. The clash between Granny Goodness and Waller, the two coldest women in the DC universe, is worth the price of admission alone.
