10 Essential Suicide Squad Stories
3. Justice League Unlimited: Task Force X (2005)
Appearing as part of the fantastic Justice League Unlimited series (season two, episode four, to be exact), Amanda Waller tasks the black ops team to infiltrate the Justice League Watchtower. Every element of a classic Suicide Squad story is featured within the episode, from Amanda Waller and Rick Flag Jr., to longtime members Deadshot and Captain Boomerang.
As part of the Project Cadmus arc, Task Force X has to disguise themselves as Watchtower staff to retrieve a powerful artefact for the government to use against the League. Drawing on classic heist movies, the team has a small window to get in and get out before heroes like the Martian Manhunter become aware of their presence.
It is a tense episode throughout as you can't help but root for the villains even though they're working against the Justice League. In classic heist movie fashion, the team is discovered. Forced to escape by any means available, the squad's abilities are on full display, with bullets, bombs and boomerangs flying in all directions.
It not only perfectly captures the Suicide Squad, but it's also one of the best episodes of the Justice League Unlimited series. A must-see for any fan, and a perfect introduction to the concept of the Suicide Squad.
