9. House Of M
Marvel ComicsIf youve read the Uncanny Avengers title, you might have wondered why theres so much tension between Rogue and the Scarlet Witch. For the answer to that, we have to go to House of M, a crossover between the Avengers and the X-Men. In the Avengers: Disassembled storyline, the Scarlet Witch went a little crazy, turning against her fellow teammates and nearly destroying them. House of M sees her return and using her powers to create a new reality. At the end of the event, the Scarlet Witch uttered three simple words: no more mutants. With those words, the Scarlet Witch used her massive powers to eliminate the mutant x-gene. No further mutants were being born and the existing mutant population went from millions to just under two hundred. This story had profound consequences on the X-Men in particular for years after, and set the stage for several of the stories that will also be mentioned in this article. Not only is House of M important to understanding the status of mutants over the past several years, but it also heavily figures into the current ongoing storyline in Uncanny Avengers, and will likely figure into the upcoming Axis storyline in the fall.
