10 Factors That Give Batman The Best Extended Comics Universe

9. Batman, Robin And Nightwing Bring A Great Dynamic To Team Books

While readers love to see Batman depicted as an obsessed loner, lurking in the shadows of the night and exacting street justice on the cowardly and superstitious criminals of Gotham City, it's certainly not the only way to use the character. In fact, even though he clearly prefers his own company most of the time, Batman has actually been a member of a few different superhero teams throughout DC history. He is a Justice League mainstay and has also presided over a number of different groups named The Outsiders, a gathering of metahumans who do the dirty jobs that the JLA won't touch. Batman's proteges have also been members of various DC super-teams. The Teen Titans routinely have a Robin on the roster, whether it be Dick Grayson or Tim Drake, and Nightwing was the co-leader of a new version of The Outsider's in the early 2000's. Why is it that these characters, generally darker and more mysterious than their DC brethren, always seem to be part of the team? Well, it's precisely because of how they differ from other heroes. Batman, Robin and Nightwing always bring a very interesting dynamic to their team books. They are often shown to be the tacticians, genius level intellects who know that in order to survive amongst these superpowered beings they will need to out-think them. They always have plans for every scenario, and back-up plans to those plans, should anything go sideways. They also bring a fascinating edge to team books, as they are generally presented as being slightly unknowable and aloof to their teammates. The other heroes have the utmost respect for Batman, Nightwing and Robin and know that there is no one else they would rather have in their corner, but they are also slightly scared of them. Or, at the very least, they see an element of danger. This is especially true with Batman in the Justice League, as Green Lantern and The Flash are routinely shown to be wary of ol' Bats.
