10 Famous Comic Books You Won't Believe Were Written By Celebrities
2. The Umbrella Academy - Gerard Way
The Umbrella Academy is a Dark Horse series that revolves around a team of seven superpowered children who use their abilities to try and stop Armageddon. Considering the first issue begins with a wrestler impregnating 43 women by elbow-dropping an alien, that should give you how utterly bonkers this series is.
The first volume was an instant hit and bagged an Eisner Award for Best Limited Series. It spawned spin-offs, a Netflix series, and two more volumes. Even though the series was originally written 13 years ago and has never been more popular than today, many fans are oblivious that it was written by My Chemical Romance singer, Gerard Way.
Stranger still, Way has been writing his own comics since he was sixteen, long before he co-founded his rock band. Even though he is busy writing songs, he is still working on new comic stories. He wrote the six-part series, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, created his own comic imprint called Young Animal in 2016, and is currently working on a fourth volume of The Umbrella Academy, which should be released this year.
