Through his podcasts, interviews, and lectures, director, Kevin Smith, has made it clear how devoted he is to comics. Although nobody was surprised when he began writing for Marvel and DC, nobody could've anticipated how influential his work would become.

In 1999, he kicked off a new volume of Daredevil with his eight-parter, Guardian Devil, which concluded with the death of Mysterio and Matt Murdock's lover, Karen Page.

In 2001, Smith managed to catch lightning in a bottle yet again with the relaunch of the DC series, Green Arrow. During his ten-issue run, he resurrected Oliver Queen and created iconic characters like Onomatopoeia and Mia Dearden. He then wrote the mini-series, Batman: Cacophony, which became a New York Times Bestseller.

Now, even the best of us can't hit it out of the park every time. Daredevil/Bullseye:The Target was cancelled after one issue and his series, Batman: The Widening Gyre, launched a thousand "Batman pissed himself" memes.

Despite some duds, the Clerks director has written astounding stories that developed the mythos of some of the most iconic superheroes. He hasn't written a comic since 2014's Batman '66 Meets the Green Hornet but it's guaranteed he'll be back when the right project tickles his fancy.
