10 Fantastic Four Comics You Must Read Before You Die
2. The Galactus Trilogy
When Stan Lee and Jack Kirby first introduced Galactus into the Fantastic Four universe, little did they know how beloved the character would become by millions around the world.
With his herald, the Silver Surfer, tearing across the galaxy and putting the bejesus up any civilization he comes across, it is only a matter of time before his big purple gaze falls upon the Earth.
There he sees the perfect meal for himself and, being the greedy bugger he is, heads off for a light snack, only to be thwarted at the last by the Fantastic Four.
It's a strange little story to look back on now, not because it wasn't well illustrated or written - it was Lee and Kirby at the helm, it was always going to rock - but mainly because of the fact that old Galactus shows up the very first time, in a spaceship.
No ominous looming out of the sky for him - no appearing as a giant space cloud either but that's by the by - just a regular planet muncher who likes to travel in comfort.
This trilogy established both the Silver Surfer and Galactus in one motion, and it should be considered essential reading for all Marvel fans.
