10 Fantastic Supporting Comic Book Characters

3. Etta Candy - Wonder Woman

Tubby, loud and ballsy, it'd be easy to make a mis-step and write Etta as an unbearable character. After all, a catchphrase of "Woo Woo" is going to grate on you after a while. Luckily, the characterisation of Etta Candy has always been reliably fantastic, and there is much to like about her as a sidekick. While attempts were made at various intervals since her 40s inception to make Etta slimmer and more like Wonder Woman herself, the writers always came back to what people seemed to love about the character - the fact that she was unconcerned about body image and revelled in her love of food. It would be easy to hypothesise that a character who regularly hollered "For the love of chocolate!" can be seen as the ultimate everyman (or everywoman) character. Two reasons to love Etta Candy, then. First, she became Wonder Woman for one night and thrashed a multitude of her enemies. Secondly, she once rescued children from a Nazi concentration camp using nothing but a box of chocolates. Fantastic.

I am a freelance writer, currently residing in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. I was raised by wolves in the woodlands of Northumberland, but am still posher than Colin Firth having dinner with The Queen. I write all of my pieces by swallowing a cocktail of scrabble tiles and vodka, then regurgitating them over my jotter. Hope this explains the typos.
